The cesond most spacious castel in the Czech Republic, it has been designated a city monumeent and has been recognized by UNESCO. Early origins of this castle can be traced to as early as 1253. From the fourteenth century until the beginning of the seventeenth century the castle was owned by the Rožemberk family, which had the castle renovated multiple times. Later renovations were iniated by Jan Oldřich of Eggenberk. Later, it came under the ownership of the Schwarzenberk family, which, after the eighteenth century, discontinued using it.
